One of the ways I am privileged to use my creative talents is by helping nonprofits with their marketing materials. One such nonprofit close to my heart is Family Promise of East San Fernando Valley, which is a nonprofit dedicated to helping situationally-homeless families back into financial independence by helping them find jobs and affordable housing. In addition to serving as the President of the Board of Directors for this organization, I also am fortunate to be able to work on our marketing materials.
One of the things I’ve had to do lately is to create a new logo for Family Promise. This logo is for an upcoming fundraiser we’re planning on having on June 5th, called Empty Bowl lunch. Our plan is to gather together artists to create nicely potted ceramic bowls for us, and then ask people to come and pay to be served soup in a nicely potted bow.
This is an event that’s new to us, so I had to create a logo to begin our communications to the community about this event. I looked around on the internet, and I found a few images from other organizations around the country that host this sort of event. In particular, I loved this graphic for a similar event in Michigan. I also found this picture, which I liked…but pictures don’t work for a logo. So I decided to stylize the picture I found ala the first graphic, but integrate that into the text of the title of the event itself.
All in all, I think that the logo works fairly successfully, and am ready to move onto the next design elements for the fundraiser — posters, flyers, tickets, etc.!
